Mobile Art in Alexandria and Arlington - Looking for creatives!
Did you know that the City of Alexandria has a Mobile Art Lab? Launched in 2014 by the City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts and equipped with traditional and innovative art supplies and equipment, the Mobile Art Lab works with local artists to offer a variety of participatory art projects for people of all ages.
The Mobile Art Lab brings a variety of different artistic experiences to the public in Alexandria. They've hosted a silent disco on Market Square in Old Town, an ornament making mini-workshops, and a performance by the Batala DC drumming sensation. You can be sure that where ever you see their brightly colored truck, you can find something interesting, creative and accessible.
Want to get involved in this fun and interactive art lab? The City of Alexandria Mobile Art Lab is now hiring creatives! You'll join the Mobile Art Lab (both indoor and outdoor venues) and help others create their own version of your type of art in a short time (3-5 minutes) with professional art supplies that they have on board the truck. If they don't have what you need, they'll get it for you! If your proposal is chosen you'll even get paid after your service is rendered. All you need is a good attitude, a good idea, and be on time. If you have an idea, send some photos and your short proposal to email@example.com
Arlington has their own Mobile Art Initiative called "Art on the ART Bus" which is a mobile gallery on one of Arlington County’s ART public transit buses. Run by Arlington’s Special Projects Curator Cynthia Connolly, this unique bus features original works of art. This dynamic connection between public transit and original art makes the commute as exciting as the destination, cultivating a vibrant arts experience for transit in Arlington County, Virginia. Initiated in December 2010, this bus rotates throughout the different routes available to ART bus passengers.
